About the Founder
Brian Morearty is founder, President, and Chief Executive Quacker of Ducklet. Mr. Morearty
lives in San Carlos, California, not far from 
San Francisco.
He has worked in the software industry since 1988 at some of the largest software companies
in the world. (Ducklet is one of the smallest software companies in
the world.)
For six years during the 1990s he was a Principal Software Engineer at Oracle.
For the last seven years he has been a Staff Software Engineer and Code
Champion at Intuit on the team that develops QuickBooks,
the best-selling small
business financial management software package. Of course he uses QuickBooks to
run Ducklet (and loves it).
When Mr. Morearty was little, he wanted to grow up to be a cartoonist. He still occasionally
dabbles in cartooning. (He drew Ducklet's ducky logo, as well as the cable cars,
plane, and landmarks on the San Franciscso Earthquake page.)
Mr. Morearty loves making software easy, fast, and attractive.
From his years at Intuit he has learned how important it is to
listen to users and give them what they need.
About the Product
Mr. Morearty has a wife and three children. (Wait, you'll see. This is going somewhere.)
He likes to
take pictures of his family and likes to occasionally change his desktop background
wallpaper to a different family photo. The Ducklet DeskPhoto product
arose from his desire to stop spending five minutes every time he wanted to change
the desktop background. He used to have to
- make a copy of the photo, so he wasn't
messing with the original,
- load it into PhotoShop, which has one of the longest
startup times in the industry,
- crop it to the right size for his desktop and
save it,
- set the new copy as his desktop background.
It seemed to Mr. Morearty there
must be a better way—if a software guy was getting tired of following all
these steps, he imagined how it must be for someone who doesn't know about screen
dimensions or doesn't have photo-editing software.
